Cameroon Wells Project

Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Why build wells

There are communities in Cameroon in which people, including children, have to travel long distances, putting their lives at risk every day to get water for their families and that water isn't even clean. 

When we have wells built, we can ensure that there is a pump and filter so ensure the water it provides for a community is clean.

When it began for FirstMC

Under Pastor Jordan Oloomi's leadership, FirstMC began to take a special missions offering each year during our Christmas Eve Service in which 100% of the money collected would be given away, usually split equally between a local partner and a global partner. In 2022, through our connection to Pastor Joel Ngoh (a former pastor in Cameroon who now lives in the United States and attends FirstMC), we choose a church in Cameroon to partner with, and we raised money with the hope of sending a team and building a well there.

We raised about $2,545.50 from this first offering for Cameroon. Pastor Jordan and Pastor Joel were unable to travel to Cameroon in January 2023 as originally planned, but finally made it there in November 2023.  This trip allowed them to network with people and companies in Cameroon.  Pastor Abraham Ayeh of Nkongsamba was chosen to personally oversee the project.

On Christmas Eve of 2023, we decided that all of our special missions offering would go towards a global partner (instead of splitting it with a local partner). We choose to again raise money for building wells in Cameroon. 

We raised $26,362.37 from the second offering. Pastor Jordan, Pastor Joel, and Pastor Brian traveled to Cameroon in February 2024.  This trip was to encourage our partners in Cameroon, teach leaders, build a bigger network, and scout locations for new wells.

On Christmas Eve of 2024, we once again had building wells in Cameroon as our global partner as we hoped to raise enough to build a third well and send teams there again.

We raised $9,157.21 from the third offering for Cameroon. 

Where are the wells we built

We have since funded 3 wells! These wells provide the only local source of safe, clean water for nearby communities. The first 3 wells we sponsored are located in:
-Eboue, Nkongsamba
-Melong
-Nkwen, Bamenda

The impact of these wells reaches 11 communities of about 6,500 people. No longer do the children in these communities have to walk long distances, crossing busy streets to risk their lives for unclean water.
